What is in the spreadsheet

  • Dashboard: a health score and progress by area that fill in by themselves.
  • Checklist: 24 checks, each with why it matters, a free tool to test it, a priority and a Status drop-down.
  • Free tools: links to every SEOSage checker, so you can test each row in one click.
  • Action plan: turn problems into jobs with an owner, a date and a 30, 60 or 90 day slot.
  • Keywords, Broken links, Competitors: trackers for rankings, 404s and redirects, and who ranks above you.
  • Monthly numbers and Report outline: a 12-month tracker with a chart, and the seven sections of a client report.

  • Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
  • Fill in the audit details on the Start here tab.
  • Go down the list. Test each check with the tool named in the row.

SEO audit report template

A good report is short and ordered by what matters. Use these seven sections.

  1. Summary. Three or four sentences: how healthy the site is, the biggest problems, and what to do first. Write it last. Most readers stop here.
  2. Scope. The website, the date, how many pages were checked, and which tools you used.
  3. What is working. A short list of good news. It builds trust and shows you looked at the whole site.
  4. Issues by priority. A table with one row per issue: what it is, how many pages it affects, why it matters, how to fix it and how much work it is. Put the High priority issues first.
  5. Quick wins. The fixes that take under an hour and help straight away, such as a stray noindex tag or a broken link in the menu.
  6. Plan. Who does what and by when, for example the next 30 days, then 60, then 90.
  7. Next review. When you will check again, and which pages you will re-check after the fixes.

What is in the SEO audit template?
