Backup and restore for your SEOSage data
SEOSage is a desktop app for Mac and Windows. It keeps your projects, crawl history and settings on your computer. The Backup page saves them into one file, on your computer or in your own Google Drive, and puts them back when you need them.

Back up to your computer or your Google Drive

What the Backup page does
- What is saved: Your sites, crawls and crawl history, settings, competitors and Core Web Vitals test history, in one file
- On this computer: Back up now saves the file inside SEOSage's own folder, so macOS never asks for access to your Documents. From the File menu you can save a file in any folder you choose
- Google Drive: Sign in with Google and back up into a folder called SEOSage Backups. SEOSage can only see the files it made itself, never the rest of your Drive. You choose the Google account, and it does not have to be the one used for Search Console
- Automatic backups: Off, Every day or Every week, while SEOSage is open. If it was closed at the time, it catches up the next time you open it. You can also save a copy to Google Drive, and back up every time you close SEOSage
- Name a backup: Back up now asks for an optional name, which is shown in the list
- Saved backups: A list of the copies SEOSage keeps, on this computer and in Drive, newest first, with date, place and size. Restore or delete each one
- Restore: From the list, from a file or from Drive. SEOSage asks you to confirm, saves a safety copy of what you have now, puts the backup in and restarts
What it does not do
Your Google sign-ins and your licence are never put in a backup. A restore replaces your current projects and settings with the backup, after saving a safety copy of what you had.
Automatic backups run only while SEOSage is open. On this computer SEOSage keeps the newest 10 automatic copies and the newest 5 made when you close the app. Backups you make yourself stay until you delete them.

Questions about backup and restore
What does a SEOSage backup include?
Your sites, crawls and crawl history, settings, competitors and Core Web Vitals test history. Your Google sign-ins and your licence are never put in a backup.
Where are my backups kept?
On this computer, in SEOSage's own folder, and in a folder called SEOSage Backups in your Google Drive if you use Drive. Backups from older Mac versions are in Documents, in SEOSage Backups, and can be restored with Restore from file.
Can SEOSage see my other Google Drive files?
No. It uses Google's narrow Drive permission, so it can only see the files it made itself.
How do automatic backups work?
Pick Off, Every day or Every week. SEOSage backs up while it is open, and catches up the next time you open it if it was closed. You can add a copy to Google Drive and a backup every time you close the app. Closing can take a few seconds longer while the copy is saved.
How do I restore a backup?
Press Restore next to a saved backup, or use Restore from file or Restore from Drive. SEOSage asks you to confirm, saves a safety copy of your current data, puts the backup in and restarts.
