See what changed on each page

Crawl a site once, then crawl it again. Changes appear in the Issues list under the category Changes. Each one says what the page had before and what it has now. A simple way to monitor SEO changes after a site update: crawl again and see which pages lost a title, picked up a noindex or now redirect somewhere else.

Good to know

The summary of each page is saved on your computer after every full crawl, and nothing is sent anywhere. The first crawl of a site has nothing to compare with, so changes show from the second crawl on. It works on sites on your own computer too.

A crawl that you stop saves no summary, so it is not used as the starting point for the next comparison. Pages with parameters in the address are left out. This is separate from Compare, which compares the issue counts of two crawls.

How it works in three steps

  1. Crawl the site and let it finish.SEOSage saves a small summary of every page on your computer.
  2. Crawl the same site again. Each change since the last crawl shows up in the Issues list, under Changes.
  3. Check each change.Decide if it was on purpose. The two noindex changes ask you to check this.

Questions about this check

What is change tracking?

After each full crawl, SEOSage saves a small summary of every page on your computer. On the next crawl of the same site, it compares each page with that summary and lists what changed.

Which changes does it find?

Title tag changed, H1 tag changed, Meta description changed, Word count changed, Canonical URL changed, Noindex page became indexable, Indexable page became non-indexable and Redirect target changed. They show in the Issues list under the category Changes. Pages with parameters in the address are left out.

Why does my first crawl show no changes?

The first crawl of a site has nothing to compare with. Changes show from the next crawl of the same site. A crawl that you stop saves no summary, so it is not used for the next comparison.

How big does a word count change have to be?

The page must change by at least 20 percent and by at least 50 words. Smaller edits are not listed.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The summary is kept on your computer and is not sent anywhere. Change tracking also works on sites that run on your own computer.

How is it different from Compare?

Compare looks at the issue counts of two crawls. Change tracking looks at the pages themselves and lists each page whose title, heading, description, canonical address, indexing, word count or redirect changed.
