Why orphan pages matter

A page with no links pointing to it is hard for visitors and crawlers to reach, and it gets no internal link value from the rest of your site.

  • Only pages Google can index: pages hidden with noindex are listed separately as a low-priority notice, so the main list stays short
  • Matched by topic: suggestions use the words in each page's title, heading and address; very common words are ignored
  • Honest when it cannot tell: orphan pages depend on the rest of the site, so a single-page re-check says Needs re-crawl
  • Part of every crawl: no extra setup, and no page limit

Questions about orphan pages

What is an orphan page in SEO?

An orphan page is a page that no other page on your website links to. Visitors cannot click through to it, and search engines may find it only through a sitemap.

Do orphan pages hurt SEO?

They can. A page with no internal links gets no link value from the rest of the site and is easier for crawlers to miss. Linking to it from a related page is the usual fix.

How does SEOSage find orphan pages?

It compares the pages it finds with the links on the pages it crawled. A page that no crawled page links to is reported as an orphan.

Does it tell me where to add the link?

Yes. Each orphan page shows up to three pages about the same topic that do not link to it yet, and a suggested anchor text taken from the page's heading.

Why are some orphan pages listed separately?

Pages hidden from Google with noindex are shown as a low-priority notice. They are usually hidden on purpose, so they stay out of the main list.

Do I need to crawl again after adding links?

Yes, because an orphan page depends on the whole site. Run a new crawl to see it marked as fixed.
