Free SEO ROI calculator

Enter what SEO costs and the traffic you aim for. See the return, and the month SEO pays for itself, as you type.

Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or saved. This is an estimate, not a promise: real results depend on your market, your competitors and the work done.

What this tool checks

  • Extra visits as traffic grows month by month
  • Extra leads and customers, or extra online sales
  • Extra revenue, or profit if you set your margin
  • Total SEO cost, including any setup fee
  • Return on investment (ROI) over the months you choose
  • The month SEO pays for itself, or how long after

Why it matters

Clients ask when SEO will pay off. This calculator shows the month it pays for itself, not just one big ROI number. Traffic grows evenly over the months you choose, because SEO builds up slowly: Google says some changes take effect in hours and others take several months.

How to read your result

  • Pays for itself in month 8 means that by month 8, the extra earnings so far have covered all SEO costs so far.
  • ROI is the extra revenue (or profit) minus the cost, divided by the cost, over the months you chose.
  • Traffic grows evenly from today to your target, so the first months earn little.
  • The running total in the table stays negative until SEO has paid for itself.

Common problems and fixes

  • Using revenue instead of profit. Set the profit margin, or the ROI looks bigger than it is.
  • A target that is too high. Base it on what similar sites get, or on the searches for your main keywords.
  • Judging SEO too early. SEO builds slowly. Twelve months is a fair period to judge it.
  • Counting every lead as a sale. Use how many leads really become customers.

What is an SEO ROI calculator?

An SEO ROI calculator estimates the return on money spent on search engine optimisation. It turns the extra organic visits you expect into leads, customers or sales, puts a value on them, and compares that with the cost of SEO to give a return on investment as a percentage. This calculator also grows the traffic month by month and shows the month when the extra earnings cover the total cost, which is the question most clients ask first.

Questions about the seo roi calculator

How do you calculate SEO ROI?

Take the extra revenue or profit that search brings in, subtract what SEO cost, and divide by what SEO cost. A result of 50% means every 1 spent brought back 1.50.

What is a good ROI for SEO?

Anything above 0% means SEO earned more than it cost. What counts as good depends on the business, so compare it with what the same money earns from ads or other channels.

How long does SEO take to pay for itself?

It depends on the market, the competition and the work done. SEO builds up slowly, so early months earn little. The calculator shows the month it pays back for your own numbers.

Should I use revenue or profit?

Profit gives a truer answer. A sale of 100 with a 30% margin earns 30, so set the profit margin box to your real margin.

Is anything I type saved?

No. The calculator works in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or saved.
